A True Boutique Experience
When new “Ole Miss” graduates - brothers Trent and Troy Young - decided to follow in their father’s footsteps nearly 18 years ago by venturing into the world of men's retail, little could anyone have guessed what would eventually result would be one of Florida’s finer clothiers - Captain’s Landing.
Focusing on resort clothiing with an inkling that styling traditional Florida flair with a fresh perspective would have market appeal, the brothers set out to serve a diverse customer - both in age and price point.
First established it Punta Gorda in 1995, Captain’s Landing quickly became a thriving business based on the tenets of style and service, but after 10 years and prior expansion, the outlet was ready for growth again.
In 2005, Trent and Troy looked to Venice for their next venture. Venice, it seemed, lacked not only a men's store, but it was the Youngs’ old stomping ground, having been born and raised here. This time out, the brothers took a “boutique” approach to the business - one that would provide an intimate and relaxing shopping atmosphere. And so, loaded with new lines of men’s clothing presented in a warm and richly decorated environment, Captain’s Landing of Venice was born.
When asked what key elements they attribute their success to, Trent and Troy are quick to point out what customers already know: They take a very proactive approach to their business, being almost always on hand to assist customers and staff in providing the best shopping experience found anywhere. In other words, they focus on maintaining and building upon the many friendships and relationships that have been developed along the way.
And return customers from around the country and around the world are proof.
Successful business relies upon meeting and exceeding customer needs, and to that end, in 2008 Captain’s Landing took to the ether with the creation of a full e-commerce online channel, CaptainsLanding.com - a website that provides seasonal customers the opportunity to shop year round while simultaneously garnering a new audience.
Like a lot of online presences, CaptainsLanding.com features many items exclusive to the online shop as well as the unique items that are offered in the brick-and-mortar stores - and they do it with the same style and panache you’ll find in their brick-and-mortar stores.
But in all this service with style, one small hole remained in addressing what customers really wanted to complete their shopping experience: A women’s clothing line. In February of this year, Captain’s Landing added just that, introducing lines such as Royal Robbins, Aventura, Margaritaville and Teva.
Customers will tell you they love Captain’s Landing for a handful of reasons: The establishment does its best to keep things simple for the consumer - offering under one roof something for nearly every occasion with a diversity of price and selection. All this is comfortable, friendly atmosphere.
